Share the joys of a Colonial
Christmas
The holiday season comes to light
in Williamsburg with a wide range of special events and activities
that kicks off with the Grand Illumination – a spectacular
display of fireworks and candles to be held Dec. 7, 2008.
You can also enjoy a colonial holiday
feast, experience 100 Miles of Lights, witness living history
re-enactments, relax to the sounds of holiday caroling or participate
in dozens of other colonial festivities, festivals, parades
and events throughout the Colonial area.
Illuminations were common during the
18th century and held to commemorate the birth of the reigning
sovereign. Today, Colonial Williamsburg’s Grand Illumination
celebrates the start of the winter holidays and kicks of the
start of a 4-month festival of fun. Musical performances on
multiple stages and fireworks launched from three locations
usher in the season with a glorious bang.
Throughout the holiday season, the region
will glitter and glow, sparkle and shine with lights, lights
and more lights. The 100 Miles of Lights celebration features
holiday events and activities in Richmond, Williamsburg, Newport
News, Hampton, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach.
