Historical Interpreters Offer a Realistic Look at Colonial Williamsburg

The historical interpreters which donate their times are often a large part of the fun when visiting Colonial Williamsburg. Not only do they provide entertainment and educational values, but they also offer a realistic look at what colonial times were like for people of all walks of life.

This includes the socially elite, the working class, the slaves, and the children from those different classes during the Colonial Williamsburg periods. Colonial Williamsburg also offers a glimpse as historical figures like George and Martha Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, and all the other well-known people of Williamsburg and surrounding areas.

Historical interpreters do their best to include authentic clothing for a realistic look at Colonial Williamsburg. Men, women, and children are all dressed in eighteenth-century clothing. Typically, women wore gowns, which included a bodice, stomacher, and petticoat underneath the gown. Men, on the other hand, would wear suits made of breeches, shirt, waistcoat, coat, hat, stockings, and shoes. Men would also often carry a cane or walking stick with them. Children generally have items similar to their parents, depending on whether they were a boy or a girl, although their clothing did not always consist of so many pieces.

While you see the historical interpreters playing the people of Colonial Williamsburg, you can also see them interacting at the historical buildings and colonial sites around the area. These buildings include the Courthouse, James Geddy house, Governor's Palace, Wetherburn's Tavern, and many other colonial sites like Play Booth Theater, Market Square, Palace Green, and the Great Hopes Plantation.

To find out more about Colonial Williamsburg, the historical interpreters that give you a glimpse at that life, and what else is available in the area, visit www.HistoricWilliamsburgUSA.com. One look and you will be ready to plan your visit.
