History is Alive at Colonial Williamsburg

Millions of tourists and world travelers take a journey to the fully restored eighteenth century capital of Colonial Williamsburg each year to enjoy the many activities and events that take place in this entertaining and popular destination. During the busy summer months visitors are able to join an evening walking tour of the town, visiting "haunted sights" or just enjoying the feel of the streets by romantic gas lighting. This is also a way to see the town during the relative comfort and cool of the evening, rather than during a hot and sunny Virginia summer day.

Most travelers have several "must see" spots in Colonial Williamsburg, many of which are included in the most popular walking tours, but are equally easy to find on one's own. These usually include the Governor's Palace, the Capitol Building, the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum, and the campus of the William and Mary College.

The Governor's Palace was the actual home of Virginia's first seven governors. Costumed guides will take guests throughout the completely restored buildings and gardens.

The Capitol Building played a distinct role in the founding of the United States, as it was there in 1776 that Virginia's patriots voted to seek independence, and returned to the Continental Congress with word of their decision.

Many people seek out the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum because of its unique collection of the earliest decorative materials in the country - including textiles and ceramics, silver and pottery all dating back as far as the 1600s.

The grounds and neighborhoods surrounding the William and Mary College campus offer excellent opportunities for shopping, dining, photographs and enjoying the beautiful brick building and cobblestone streets of Colonial Williamsburg.

The accommodations in this popular area book very early in the season, so it is a good idea to plan a Colonial Williamsburg vacation as early as possible. At www.HistoricWilliamsburgUSA.com travelers can make all of their arrangements, including purchasing tickets to many popular attractions and booking their room.
